Flights from Accra to Dubai have been cancelled following escalating tensions in the Middle East after reported bombings in Iraq and retaliatory attacks across the region.

Information from flight tracking platforms shows that Emirates flight EK 788, scheduled to depart Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra at 7:15 pm GMT on Saturday, 28 February 2026, has been cancelled.

The flight was due to leave from Terminal 3 and arrive at Dubai International Airport (DXB) at 6:50 am local time (+04) on Sunday, 1 March 2026.

Flight status updates indicate the service will no longer operate as planned, with gate details listed as unavailable.

The cancellation comes amid heightened security concerns across the Middle East. Several countries in the region, including Qatar and Kuwait, have reportedly closed their airspace following the latest wave of military action and retaliatory strikes. 

The reported closure of key air corridors has disrupted commercial aviation routes, forcing airlines to suspend or reroute services.

Dubai is a major transit hub for passengers travelling from Ghana to Asia, Europe, and North America. The suspension of flights is expected to affect travellers connecting through the United Arab Emirates.

Emirates has yet to issue a detailed public statement on the specific Accra service, but airlines operating through the Gulf region have been reviewing schedules as the security situation evolves.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump says Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been killed.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Mr. Trump described Khamenei as “one of the most evil people in history” and said the killing was “justice” for Americans and others around the world. He claimed the operation was carried out using “highly sophisticated tracking systems” in coordination with Israel.

Mr Trump also suggested that heavy and targeted bombing would continue “as long as necessary” to achieve what he described as peace in the Middle East.

There has been no immediate confirmation from Iranian authorities regarding the claim.

Airlines operating through the Gulf region are continuing to review their schedules as the security situation evolves. Passengers scheduled to travel on affected flights are being advised to contact their airlines for rebooking or refund options.
