President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the Accra Digital Centre has facilitated the creation of nearly 600 new jobs in data analytics, telecommunications and other technology-related services.
Speaking at an event in the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, July 21, the President described the achievement as evidence of government's commitment to building a digital economy that creates employment opportunities for the youth.
"The Accra Digital Centre has also facilitated almost 600 new jobs in Data Analytics, telecommunications and related services," the President mentioned.
The President also praised Greater Accra for leading the implementation of the government's digital transformation initiatives, particularly the One Million Coders Programme.
According to him, the region accounted for the highest number of applications received under the programme, underscoring the growing interest of young people in acquiring digital skills.
“Greater Accra is also driving Ghana's Digital Transformation. The greatest number of the One Million Coders has been here in the Greater Accra Region out of 91,000 applications that were received nationwide within 48 hours,” he noted.
He further announced plans to redevelop the International Trade Fair Centre into a modern convention and conference facility.
He stated that the redevelopment of the Trade Fair Centre forms part of government's efforts to modernise key national infrastructure and position Ghana as a preferred destination for international conferences, exhibitions and trade events.
“I am also happy to announce the redevelopment of the International Trade Centre. A new convention and conference centre is going to be built on the Trade Fair Centre,” President Mahama said.
